Coaching

Ringette coaches come from all walks of life but have a common passion for the fastest game on ice. If you’re interested in becoming a ringette coach and helping out on a team, you can start by taking the right course to gain your certification.

Introduction

Below you'll find a description of the training and certification standards for coaches. This program is subject to change so check back often. For a current list of coaching clinics around the province, visit BC Ringette's Coaching Clinics page.

Descriptions and Definitions

Term Definition
CABC The Coaches Association of British Columbia. Visit http://www.coaches.bc.ca to login using your CC# and check your certifications.
CAC The Coaching Association of Canada. Key partner in the delivery of Canada ’s National Coaching Certification Program.
CBET Competency Based Education and Training. This is a new methodology used to design the new NCCP.
CSI Community Sport Initiation: Qualifies you to coach at B or C level from Bunny to Open age divisions.
IC Introduction to Competition: Qualifies you to coach at the A level for age divisions Bunny and Novice.
IC+G Introduction to Competition plus Gradations: In conjuction with IC, qualifies you to coach at the A level from Petite to Open and AA up to and including Tween.
IC+G (Certified) Introduction to Competition plus Gradations: (trained and certified) In conjuction with IC (Certified), qualifies you to coach at the AA level from Junior to Open.
NCCP National Coaching Certification Program. The NCCP is NOT an organization, it is a program.
Trained A course has been completed. For example, a coach that has completed the Community Sport Initiation course is considered trained in Community Sport Initiation but not certified
Certified The process of being evaluated one-on-one by a BC Ringette approved evaluator
Completion All courses must be completed in their entirety to gain credit

All the courses mentioned above are Ringette-specific and available only from the BC Ringette Association. Alternative courses are available at local colleges but are not ringette-specific. They include:

• Introduction to Competition Multi Sport Course – Part A: Offered by local colleges. Part A is not a pre-requisite to Part B.
• Introduction to Competition Multi Sport Course – Part B: Offered by local colleges. Part A is not a pre-requisite to Part B.
• Ethics Module: A component of Introduction to Competition Multi Sport Course – Part A. This module is delivered separately from the rest of Competition Introduction Multi Sport Course – Part A so Competition Introduction Multi Sport Course – Part B participants receive ethics training

Bunny and Novice

Coaches (Head and Assistant) Require:
• Community Sport Initiation Trained

What if…
• I have no certification at all?
Take Community Sport Initiation

• I have Full Level 1?
No additional requirements

• I have Theory 1 only?
Take Community Sport Initiation

• I have Technical 1 only?
Take Community Sport Initiation

• I have Full or partial Level 2 or more?
No additional requirements

Petite through Open ‘B’ and ‘C’ and Masters (any level)

Coaches (Head and Assistant) Require:
• Community Sport Initiation Trained or
• Old system Full Level 1

What if…
• I have no certification at all? Take Community Sport Initiation
• I have Theory 1 only? Take Community Sport Initiation
• I have Tech 1 only? Take Community Sport Initiation
• I have Full Level 1? No additional requirements
• I have Full or partial Level 2 or more? No additional requirements

Petite through Open A plus Petite and Tween AA

Coaches (Head and Assistant) Require:
• Introduction to Competition Ringette trained and Introduction to Competition-Gradation trained or
• Introduction to Competition Ringette trained and Introduction to Competition – Part B or
• Old system Tech and Theory 2

Coaches (Head and Assistant) Require:
• Introduction to Competition Certified which includes:
1. Introduction to Competition- Ringette Trained &
2. Introduction to Competition Multi Sport Module - Part B Trained or Introduction to Competition-Gradations Certified &
3. Introduction to Competition Evaluation
or
• Full Level 2 certified
• Tech 2 + Prac 2 + Introduction to Competition- Part B + Ethics

Requirements for Females on the bench

1. Bunny, Novice, Petite, Tween, Junior of all levels
• Must have one female coach, she must be 19 years of age or older if she is the Head Coach or is the only female on the bench.

2. Belle
• One female bench staff 19 years of age or older.

3. Open
• Does not require there to be a female on the bench.
