Making the Team
LMRL AA teams are selected annually through a tryout process that is open to all league players in any qualifying division. With the exception of the Tween and Junior divisions, which start in the spring, tryouts begin in September. Each tryout offers a minimum of three fast-paced on-ice assessment sessions. Trained evaluators and the head coach make the selection based on a combination of speed, skill, agility, game knowledge, and team requirements. AA teams are selected by the end of September.
AA players selected for the Tween and older AA teams may elect to play for the home association team in addition to the AA team or affiliate with the home association in order to play with the AA team only. The LMRL recommends AA players play with both the home and AA teams to take advantage of all ice time and training available.
In addition to one or more out-of-town tournaments, AA teams play up one division at the “A” level in the LMRL league during the regular season. For example, the Junior AA team will compete during the regular season in the Belle “A” division. AA teams are not ranked in the regular season league standings. The season culminates for Tween through Open AA teams at the annual provincial playdown hosted around the province on a rotating basis. The winner of playdowns for each division goes on to represent the province at the Western or national Canadian Ringette Championships.
